MBU Career Services: Making the most of your MBU Online degree

Posted by Sarah Gibbs on Mar 5, 2018 2:23:42 PM

There’s a reason why MBU Online appeals to you. Maybe you are balancing a full-time job, family requirements, or life circumstances. Pursuing an education isn’t easy and at times, this can feel like a sacrifice. Simon Sinek, an author and motivational speaker puts it this way: “There is no decision that we can make that doesn’t come with some sort of balance or sacrifice.”

MBU Career Services recognizes this, and modifies our services to accommodate all MBU students. Our office understands that you desire balance and we recognize your great sacrifices to making your dreams come true.

One of the best parts of these services out of Career Services is that they are offered to you for your lifetime. As long as you are considered an MBU student or graduate our services are offered to you. That means if your company hits a hard spot and you are downsized you can contact us and we can help you with your job search. If you decide that you no longer want to continue in healthcare and are considering pivoting fields we can connect you with our career counselor. And even if you just want to refresh your resume after being in your field for a few years, we are happy to help.

While these are needs for all students, it is can be even more needed for online learners. These two services are critical to propelling the student into their next stage in life with their new degree in hand:

  1. Resume Expert

As much as a brand-new suit can change the outlook of a person, a resume makeover with a resume expert can do the same thing for much less money. All MBU students and alumni are able to request a one-on-one 45-minute appointment with our resume expert, Wendy Jamison.  She has over 14 years of experience working with students and alumni on resumes and career counseling. This service could cost upward of $300 but is free to those at MBU. This service has been adapted to meet the growing need of online students and Career Services now offers online appointments to meet the demand of busy learners.

  2. MBU Link

The other service that we encourage students to utilize is MBU Link, our online job searching system. This system is just for MBU students and alumni and operates much like any other job searching program that you would find online. However, employers are looking specifically for the attributes of MBU students and alumni. The system has almost 2500 companies represented in MBU Link including local, nationwide and international companies. Opportunities include part-time, full-time, volunteer and internship positions. These jobs can fit those looking for entry-level experience to get into their field, those that are looking for executive positions, and everything in between.

As a career services professional, I can preach about these services for hours. However, my best experience comes from my personal experience. As a current online MBU student myself, I have spent thousands of hours in coffee shops (yes, the baristas know me by name) working through discussion posts and assignments. I have juggled working a full-time job, running a small business and finishing up my degree. I understand the sacrifice of sleep and at times relationships while attempting to be successful in all of your necessary areas. Sometimes you wonder if the hardship is worth it, but let me tell you—it is.

Your degree came at a sacrifice, let MBU Career Services help you rise into the next era of your life. You deserve it.
